Homemade Taho...

For my first entry for Yummy Sunday, I chose to showcase this taho with colorful tapioca pearls. This taho is homemade from scratch. So easy to make, it's one of the filipino food/snacks that I can easily make here in the US. My husband is actually the one who figured out the recipe for me about 4 years ago. All you need is Tofu (Soft or Silken), do not even think of trying the firm tofu, it taste really awful, I know because I've tried it! You can buy an uncooked tapioca pearls at the grocery store, or check the asian store first, they might have some quick cook colored tapioca pearls already. But if you can't find any, the ones at the grocery store will be just fine but it does takes a while to cook it. It is much better that you boil the water first before putting the tapioca pearls in the pot.

If you want colorful sago or tapioca pearls, what you can do after it's cooked is, divide the cooked sago (depends how many colors you want), then add about 4 drops of food coloring, mix well for about a minute or two and then rinse until water turns clear. The last thing you need to complete your taho is the latik. All you have to do to make this is boil water and brown sugar together until it thickens up (the consistency should be thicker than water). After all of these, heat up the tofu in the microwave, add tapioca pearls and latik and voila! There's you a homemade taho!
