Yellow Rose Turned To Red!

Would you believe me if I tell you that this rose bush used to bear yellow blooms? Yes! The flowers on this rose bush used to be yellows but now it's red! What happened was, in 2009 wintertime, we had this horrible snow storm. We did not have electricity, water, heater for almost 4 days. It was just an awful experience! Anyway, this rose bush died from the winter. A week later I was gonna dig up the dead bush so I can replace a new one in it's place, I actually dug out the root from the dirt and then I changed my mind and thought maybe if I leave it there it will come back.

A few months later, it was almost spring time, I noticed that there was new growth on it! I almost couldn't believe it! It actually came back to life! But when it started budding, I noticed that the tip of the buds weren't yellow colors anymore! I told my husband about it that our yellow rose bush turned into red! He couldn't hardly believe it either but picture above is the proof! I have a picture of the old yellow blooms somewhere saved. One day I will dig it out..but anyway, the yellow rose was much prettier than this new red one. This looks like a knock-out rose, the old one was not a knock out rose, I don't know what do you call that kind of rose but it was very pretty! Now, I am not saying that this one is not pretty, it's still very pretty to me! That's why I took a bunch of pictures of it earlier because it's now blooming outside!

  1. I wonder if your yellow rose was a hybrid or grafted onto the red stock, and in the storm the hybrid died and the stock took over. I don't know much about roses, but that's my guess. It's pretty, anyways, and a great story.
